This highly imaginative 19th c. fresco from a Bulgarian monastery shows the reversal depicted in today’s Gospel parable. The rich man enjoys a lavish dinner in the company of family and friends while, outside, the dogs lick Lazarus’s sores. But in the day of judgment, Lazarus is comforted by Father Abraham, while the dragon (not mentioned in Jesus’ original story) devours the rich man.
