Sermon - The Conversion of St Paul 1.25.15

25 January 2015: The Conversion of St Paul
Acts 9:1-22; Ps. 67; Galatians 1:11-24; Luke 21:10-19
St Stephen Lutheran Church
The Rev. Maurice C. Frontz, STS

Even though today’s feast is called
‘The Conversion of St Paul,’
the word ‘conversion’ does not appear in our texts for today.
But it seems an appropriate enough word.
To ‘convert’ is to turn around.
You are walking one way,
and then you turn around and you walk the other way.
Oddly enough, St Paul did not ‘convert’ in this literal sense.
He was on his way to Damascus,
and then he kept going to Damascus.
But when he got to Damascus,
he began to walk in a new way,
in the way of suffering and witness,
in the way of Christ.

CHURCH UNITY IS NOT ABOUT BEING NICE!!!

I'll say that again.
Church unity is not about being nice!
Nor is any unity, when you come to think about it.

Sermon - Epiphany of our Lord

What gift will you offer the King?
Three wise men came from country far,
following a star,
to seek for a king.
When they finally arrived,
when they finally found the king they had been searching for,
they entered in full rev’rently on bended knee,
and offered there in his presence
their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Fit gifts indeed for one of royal birth.
What gift will you offer the king?
